New Blog Design

I was checking out some forums at Blog Azeroth, and I came across a post for the Wow Model Viewer.  It intrigued me, so I downloaded it, played around a bit, and ended up with a new look for the blog.  What do you think?  Yes? No?

New Ugly Shoulders

I have been missing raiding a lot lately, so when an excellent raid leader from my old guild asked last weekend if I wanted to raid Firelands sometime soon, I said yes this time.

Since leaving both of my recent raiding guilds, I have only been on one trash farm run since 4.2 dropped.  I didn't even step inside the instance until last week.  I have been dealing with real life, my boyfriend's vacation, and trying to level my Smolderthorn characters.  I told myself I was happy saving 3-500 gold per night by NOT raiding.

I lied.  I love raiding.  I miss raiding

I got to raid tonight.  We got Shannox, Lord Rhyolith, and Beth'tilac down, and got several good attempts at Baleroc in before calling it a night.

I have to say, Baleroc is an interesting fight from a healing standpoint, especially for a druid.  In fact, Baleroc hates me.  What do you mean I can't use my hots first?  Spam nourish, regrowth or healing touch only?  It goes against my nature as a resto druid.  It took a couple of tries, but I finally got the hang of letting my stacks build before switching to the tanks.  I look forward to trying to perfect my healing strategy tomorrow night.  Tank Spot has excellent videos explaining the boss fights, too.  Thank you Lore and Aliena!

I also got 3 new pieces of gear:  the cloak that requires Avengers of Hyjal friendly, Incendic Chestguard from Lord Rhyolith, and some BOE shoulders, the Flickering Shoulderpads of the Undertow.  Can these shoulders get any uglier???

Here are my old shoulders:

I never thought I would miss their "moulting" feature, until I got these:

Lanterns?  Or is that fire-wood?  I mean, WTF???  To quote Darnell, "Really Blizz?!!  Really?"

Sweet dreams!

Balloons!

After taking quite a bit of time off, I finally got back to playing on Smolderthorn last night.  I got my priest Heathyrn from level 28 to 32.  Four whole levels-- Whoa!

It felt good to be playing again.  I didn't even get too bored with it.  In fact, once I hit level 32 with her, I got her her horde balloon pet, and decided I should get my other characters their balloons as well--after all, the quest is a low level one that suddenly appeared, and I have not heard if this is a permanent quest now or a temporary one.  I decided it is better to be safe than sorry, and spent 2 hours getting the balloon on both my Alliance and Horde characters on 4 different servers.

Vin in Cathedral Square in Stormwind, and Jaga in the Valley of Wisdom in Orgrimmar, give out the quest for Alliance and Horde respectively.  If you click on their names, you'll find a map showing where each NPC is located.  You go around Orgrimmar or Stormwind collecting 5 runaway balloons.  Once you turn them back in to either Vin or Jaga, you get the balloon pet and Vin or Jaga float away into the sunset.  I hope they packed a lunch.

So, after 2 hours, I now have these on most of my toons:

ALLIANCE BALLOON

DEEPS MORE DEEPING...I MEAN, HORDE BALLOON

My goblin almost sounds like she inhaled the helium!  Have fun!

Tuesday Haiku

I love to take screenshots.  In fact, I love to submit them to the Screenshot of the Day on the WoW website. Whoa!  To my knowledge I have not had any featured as the Screenshot of the Day.

I also love poetry, and I used to write quite a bit of it.  A friend of mine shared his first Haiku yesterday on Google+, and it got me itching to get back to writing again.

So, without further ado, I present:

Tuesday Morning Haiku

Revenge

Fiery vengeance,

Like molten wings of hatred,

Fuels only death.

Enjoy your day!

Firelands--I Didn't Mean To Lie

I haven't played much in the last week or so.  But I have a confession to make:  what little I did play was almost exclusively on Korgath.  Whoa!

I know--I'm in The Daily Blink's guild, Deeps More Deeping, on Smolderthorn.  I know--I said I was done with Korgath after the drama that took place a few weeks ago.  I know--I'm no longer in a raiding guild on Korgath.  I KNOW!

I am having a hard time leveling more toons on Smolderthorn.  I love Teh Blink, don't get me wrong.  But I deleted my first 80, and have an undead death knight on Drak'thul that's level 82 or 83.  And 6 85's on Korgath.  That means I've done Outland and Northrend quests 8 times so far.  Actually, my death knight farm toon on Smolderthorn is level 75 now, so I've done Outland 9 times.

It's driving me crazy.  I'm bored stiff.  And my schedule has been so crazy, I have done very little leveling with other guild members.  They just aren't on or aren't my level when I'm on.

So, even though my characters on Korgath are in my bank toon's guild, Chicken Hawk (named after a gnome friend and his flying copter), I have been spending time in Firelands lately, working on my rep on my main, and working on getting the rest of my 85's there Firelands ready--I never quested much in Hyjal, only got Loremaster of Cataclysm on Hearthyn, so I'm having to open the area up for most of my other toons.  So far, I have my lock started on the Firelands dailies, and I'm working on getting my priest started next.

Why am I doing all of this, if I'm not even raiding?  Glad you asked.  At first I thought it was because I had finally LOST MY FRIGGIN' MIND!  But you have to understand something--I made my first character on Auchindoun almost 3 years ago.  A druid.  A week or two later, I found out my son-in-law played on Korgath, so I made my Hearthyn there and deleted the first druid.  For the past almost 3 years, I have leveled, been ganked, waged war, conquered fierce enemies, reveled and drank to excess, seriously blundered, and just plain had fun--on Korgath.  It is my home.  It is where my 6 85's, with their complementary professions and their varying degrees of ilevel reside.  They are my babies.  I simply cannot abandon them, or the friends I have made over 3 years of epic noob-ness.

I plan to continue casually enjoying Deeps More Deeping on Smolderthorn.  I simply cannot abandon my "mains" on Korgath.  I didn't mean to lie when I said you could find me on Smolderthorn from now on.  I hope you can forgive me.

Have fun, and happy questing!

Vacation, Sketch and Google+

So, my boyfriend has been on vacation this last week.  I went several days without even visiting Twitter or playing WoW.  Whoa!

Last Saturday, @Vasburg sketched my Hearthyn and 59 other toons--all done in 3 hours and 20 minutes, leaving him 3 minutes and 42 seconds only for each.  Here is the picture I sent him:

Considering the time crunch, I think he did pretty good!  Here's his sketch:

I watched his live stream for over an hour, but I simply couldn't stay for the whole 3 hours and 20 minutes.  It was really neat watching him work.

By the way, I joined Google+.  If you would like to add me to your circles, and vice versa, you can add me here:  https://plus.google.com/110127862840009899291/posts.  Please post to me and let me know how you found me so I can add you to the appropriate circle.  Also, if you would like a G+ invite, leave a comment here.  I will try to check in again in the next few days, and I should be back full time after the boyfriend's vacation ends next week.

Have fun!

Circle of Healing?

Saunder over at Non Squishy Heals is starting the Circle of Healing up again.  Apparently another blogger used to do this, one that I unfortunately am NOT familiar with. Miss Medicina hasn't posted since December of last year.

Anyway, I read his post, and decided to join in.  Below are the questions and my answers.  I just don't know who to forward it to.  Whoa!  Can't complete the circle?

Oh, well, here goes:

1. What is the name, class, and spec of your primary healer? Hearthyn, Restoration Druid

2. What is your primary group healing environment? (i.e. raids, pvp, 5 mans) 10-man raiding, as well as some 25-man raids.

3. What is your favorite healing spell for your class and why? Wild Growth.  It hits so many people and is even more powerful glyphed and used while in Tree of Life.

4. What healing spell do you use least for your class and why? Healing Touch.  I'm getting better at clear casting procs, and the changes in 4.2 should definitely help, but it's such a long cast.  If someone needs heals that bad, they will probably be dead before I can finish casting it, unless Nature's Swiftness is ready.

5. What do you feel is the biggest strength of your healing class and why? The ability to manage mana, raid heal, and tank heal.  We are, in my humble opinion, one of the best all around healing classes.

6. What do you feel is the biggest weakness of your healing class and why? We no longer have an "oh, sh*& the tank's dying" button, that one spell that fixes everything for that one player in dire need.

7. In a 25 man raiding environment, what do you feel, in general, is the best healing assignment for you?  Raid healing.

8. What healing class do you enjoy healing with most and why? Priests, but paladins are a close second.  Any other healing class really.  They are all pretty competent as long as the player knows their class.

9. What healing class do you enjoy healing with least and why? See my answer for question 8.

10. What is your worst habit as a healer? Not paying attention to clear casting procs.

11. What is your biggest pet peeve in a group environment while healing? DPS yelling for heals and battle resses.  I've been raiding for awhile, and I know my priorities.  If you aren't getting healed, it's because someone more crucial to the fight needs them more.  If you aren't getting a battle res, it's because the raid leader didn't ask for it yet.

12. Do you feel that your class/spec is well balanced with other healers for PvE healing? Yes.

13. What tools do you use to evaluate your own performance as a healer?  I use Recount for some evaluation, raid success for the rest.  Each boss fight is different, so I try to keep that in mind and go more lenient on myself, haha!

14. What do you think is the biggest misconception people have about your healing class?  I think people still tend to forget that battle resses are limited now, and that we aren't the only class to have them.  Just wait till they figure out they won't get many innervates from us since 4.2.  Talk about crap hitting the fan!

15. What do you feel is the most difficult thing for new healers of your class to learn? How to manage mana and resist blanketing the raid with rejuvenation.

16. If someone were to try to evaluate your performance as a healer via recount, what sort of patterns would they see (i.e. lots of overhealing, low healing output, etc)?  Overhealing.

17. Haste or Crit and why? Haste to 2005, when Wild Growth gets an extra tick.

18. What healing class do you feel you understand least? Shamans.

19. What add-ons or macros do you use, if any, to aid you in healing? Vuhdo.  I also have  Nature's Swiftness and Healing Touch hot keyed to my middle mouse button for emergency heals, and my Tyrande's Favorite Doll macroe'd in several of my spells so I don't have to think to get the mana back.  It's also aggroed a boss or two....ooops!

20. Do you strive primarily for balance between your healing stats, or do you stack some much higher than others, and why?  I need to work on haste.  I really need to strive for the 2005 breakpoint.  The extra tick on Wild Growth would be phenomenal.  Other than that, I usually follow Elitist Jerks guidelines when it comes to stats.

So, there ya go, Saunder.  Enjoy!

Character Sketch and Postano

Happy Independence Day all of you US readers!

A couple of quick notes:  first, my character, Hearthyn, is going to be a featured sketch on Internet Hooligan for his (?) Saturday Sketch Night July 9th at 8:00pm central.  He's gonna be sketching several people's characters, and you can watch the live stream here:  http://www.livestream.com/internethooligan

Also, I discovered Postano and PostPost today.  I linked my postano to the right.  I really like it--Whoa!  It's like a webpage of every wow-related post I've made, "liked" or linked.  If you want more info, or to set up your own, got to http://postano.com.  Note:  they do charge an embed fee based on the number of twitter followers you have, but the main page is free.

Happy Holiday!

A Personal Note

I haven't played WoW much the last few days.  I just wanted to make a quick post as to why, and why I haven't posted here.  I apologize--this is not WoW related, and not my usual frivolous post.  Out of respect, I will not be holding to my "Whoa!" theme.

I grew up with my abusive father and stepmother after my parents split.  My father was finally diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia just days before he died.  I do not know if my stepmother has received any form of diagnosis, but it's the general consensus of all of us kids, including her 2 boys by my father, that she is mentally ill.

I won't go into details except to say the abuse was mostly mental and emotional for me.  My brothers got beat pretty bad after I left apparently.  It was, needless to say, a very dark time in my life.

The one shining beacon during this was my grandmother, my dad's mom.  Grandma Jewell.  And was she ever a shining jewel.

Her and my grandfather took us in for a year when my parents first split.  Before and after the divorce, we would go over to her house most Sundays for a big family dinner.  Dad had one brother, and my uncle and aunt would be there.

Grandma was born in Green County, Arkansas, and so was my grandfather.  So dinner was usually southern fried chicken, biscuits, corn on the cob, mashed potatoes and gravy--and she made the mashed potatoes with evaporated milk, not regular milk.  Now and then she'd make collard greens and cornbread.  Grandpa loved to fill a glass with buttermilk and leftover cornbread and eat it, and I think she would make it just for him.

At some point during the evening, my stepmother would make some snide comment to her--you know, the kind that almost sounds like a compliment, but really isn't?  Grandma would look at her, grab her own ear, and say, "What was that, hon?  Here, let me turn my hearing aid up."  She confessed to me later that she heard every word my stepmother said--but she wasn't about to give her the satisfaction of knowing it.

She always greeted us at the door with a big hug and kiss.  Her house was always spotless, too.  She'd say, "Well, hon, you never know when (Ron and Nancy, George and Barbara, Bill and Hillary, etc.) are coming over."  If anything went wrong, she would fix it with ice-cream.  We'd sit over our bowls and talk about life.

She drank coffee with cream, and always said you weren't a true coffee drinker if you had to have both cream and sugar in it.  I drink mine with cream only to this day.

And almost every year, I got to go stay with her for at least a week, if not two.  It was the one time I could actually be myself without repurcussions.  I lived for these breaks from my horrible reality.  And I loved her for it.

Grandma was always a true southern bell.  She told it like it was and she was always a lady doing it.  She loved to laugh, she loved her family, and she loved her religion.

Early Wednesday morning, at the age of 90, she passed away.  She was fighting liver cancer with all her being, and it won.

Grandma Jewell, I love you.  May you rest in peace until the resurrection.

Thank you all for letting me grieve.
